Day 2 - Explore Kathmandu Valley and prepare for trekking
Absolutely! Initiating your Gokyo Valley Trek with a pre-trip meeting and a day dedicated to exploring the Kathmandu Valley can be an excellent beginning. Following breakfast, we’ll guide you through sightseeing adventures in the Kathmandu Valley, Pashupatinath Temple, Narayanhiti Palace, and Boudhanath Stupa.
Day 3 - Fly to Lukla(2860m) and travel to Phakding (2610): 3-4 hours
You have the option to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, with a flight duration of approximately 35 minutes. Alternatively, you can opt for a 4 to 5 hours drive from Kathmandu to Manthali (132 km). Once in Manthali, you’ll then need to catch a flight to Lukla. Upon arrival in Lukla, our seasoned local potters will welcome you. Following that, you’ll embark on a trek lasting 3 to 4 hours to reach Phakding (3340 m). Where you’ll stay at the guesthouse.
Day 4 - Trek from Phakding to Namche(3440m): 5-6 hours
Currently our journey takes us through forests, traditional villages with farmland and pastures where yaks graze. As you approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, the imposing presence of Thamserku becomes visible. After lunch we continued to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa village in the Kgunbu region. This village serves as a center for expeditions and trekking groups. Atr Namche Bazaar you have the opportunity to buy last minute essentials like chocolate in case you missed them in Kathmandu.
Day 5 - Spend a day acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar
Today is an acclimatization day, allowing our bodies to adapt to the altitude. However, that doesn’t mean a day off! The most effective way to acclimatize is to stay active. You have the option to spend a few hours strolling around the area or visiting the school founded by Sir Edmung Hillary in Khumjung village. This school rewards the support of Sherpas who successfully climb Mount Everest. Panoramic views today include mountains such as Kwangde (6011 m), Thamserku (6723 m), Kangtega (6782 m), Nuptse (7861 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m) and of course the majestic Mt. Everest (8849 m).
Day 6 - Namche to Dole (4350 m): 5-6 hours
On the sixth day of our Himalayan trek, we say goodbye to the busy Namche Bazaar and embark on a 5-6 hours journey to the tranquil village of Dole, 4350 meters above sea level. The full-day adventure begins with a morning climb to the scenic Mong La Pass, which offers panoramic views of the Khumbu Valley and high peaks. Descending towards Phortse Tenga along the Dudh Koshi River, we cross hanging bridges decorated with prayer flags. The path then takes us up the hill to Dhole and crosses rhododendron forests and alpine meadows. When fatigue sets in, your reward will be a breathtaking view of Cho Oyu. Dole, our peaceful resting place for the night, offers an opportunity for reflection, camaraderie with other hikers and a view of the starry Himalayan sky. Day 7 - From Dole to Machhermo (4,470 m): 4-5 hours

Our schedule has been specifically designed to minimize the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) as we ascend to higher altitudes. Typically, altitude sickness becomes a concern at elevations of 3,600 meters and above. The trek will proceed at a deliberately slow and gradual pace to facilitate acclimatization. It is essential to abstain from caffeine, alcohol, and smoking. Hydration is crucial, so aim to consume a minimum of 4 liters of water daily. Take it slow during the trek and adhere to the recommended acclimatization days. If any symptoms arise, consider continuing with Diamox. Additionally, incorporating Garlic Soup into your diet is beneficial. In elevated areas, the air contains less oxygen, especially when traversing high passes. Our knowledgeable guides will provide guidance on preventing AMS and addressing it if necessary.
Is insurance necessary for the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek?
Ensure that you possess both medical and evacuation insurance prior to embarking on the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Exercise caution when selecting a policy for travel to a Himalayan destination like Nepal, as certain insurance companies may have specific provisions for adventure travel. If you find yourself uncertain about insurance matters, kindly notify us, and we will assist you. It is generally advisable to arrange your insurance in your home country before embarking on your journey.
What is the baggage allowance for both the porter service and the flight to Lukla?
Sherpa Expedition and Trekking offers one porter for every two trekkers, with each porter assigned to carry a maximum of 20 kgs of luggage (not exceeding 10 kgs per trekker). It's important to ensure that your porters are not burdened with excessive weight, as they bear not only your equipment but also contribute to uplifting your spirits, and your expressions of love, affection, and generosity can serve as motivation for them to exert extra effort in guiding you to your destination. Please note that the weight limit for flights to the Everest region, particularly to Lukla, is set at 10 kgs. Any excess baggage beyond this limit incurs an additional charge per kilogram. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking covers the cost of up to 5 kgs of extra baggage, allowing you a total of 15 kgs, including your handbag.
Is there wifi available during the trek?
Certainly, the majority of guesthouses provide Wi-Fi access for a nominal fee of $5 per day.
Are ATMs available in the Gokyo region?
ATM services are available only in Namche Bazaar and Lukla. However, these facilities might encounter issues or run out of cash. It is recommended to carry a small amount of money with you for buying snacks and other essentials during your trek.
Can I charge my batteries while trekking in Gokyo and Everest Base Camp?
The majority of tea houses and lodges are equipped with electricity, allowing you to recharge your iPod or camera batteries. It's important to be aware that these facilities may charge an additional fee for this service, ranging from 1 to 3 USD per hour.
