Embark on the Dudh Kunda trek, a journey leading to a secluded lake nestled in the Solukhumbu mountains. Dudh Khunda, translating to “ milky lake” lies in the shadow of the formidable Mount Numbur. This less-explored region in Lower Everest offers an opportunity to traverse remote trails to Pikey Peak and Dudh Kunda, allowing an immersive experience in the Buddhist culture evident in prayer walls and ancient monasteries.
Commencing with a drive to the trek’s starting point in the heart of Solukhumbu, the adventure unfolds through quaint villages and settlements, providing ample moments to revel in the serene surroundings. An early morning ascent to Pikey Peak reveals breathtaking panoramas of renowned Himalayan peaks, such as Makalu, Everest, Lhotse, and Kangchenjunga, all standing majestically above 8000 meters.
Descending from PikeyPeak, the trek leads into the Junbesi Valley, where the enchanting Thupten Choling Monastery awaits. A comfortable hike takes you to the hidden Phungmuche Monastery, secluded in its remote location. Continuing on an isolated trail, you traverse through shepherd territories and ascend gradually, reaching altitudes close to 4600 meters.
The journey culminates at the Dudh Kunda Lake, offering a well-deserved rest day amid its pristine surroundings. Following this the trail heads towards Thaksindu La pass, providing stunning ridge views of the Khumbu region, adorned with rhododendron forests. The trek concludes in the village of Phaplu, one of the larger settlements in the area, boasting local restaurants and shops. Your Dudh Kunda Trek concludes with a drive back to Kathmandu.
